METRO is a wholesaler for food and professional equipment. It supported a project to promote innovative distribution channels and modes of production and wanted to find a way to share a concrete projectwith employees.
As an actor in agroindustry, METRO has been supporting the « Fermes d’Avenir » project since 2013. This project aims to promote and develop a new agricultural model based on the principles of permaculture.
During the Sustainable Development Week, METRO decided to echo this initiative with employees in Nanterre, at its head office and distribution warehouse.
With ekodev, 24 garden boxes inspired by permaculture were set up on the rooftop, involving employees onsite. This initiative is a way to raise employees’ awareness of new sustainable agricultural techniques, caring for the environment and our health.
During the first harvest, the gardening club members picked a variety of herbs, tomatoes, strawberries… The members are staff volunteers who have taken charge of the management of the urban garden. To help them, plant care labels and information panels were provided with each garden box.
