3M Implementing a mobility plan for its employees

3M France’s head office is located in Cergy Pontoise in the Val d’Oise department. 650 employees work on this site. Since this site is subject to the the French “Plan de Protection de l’Atmosphère” (Atmosphere protection plan), 3M has an obligation to implement a mobility plan. In 2015, the sustainable development and regulatory affairs department and the site management turned to ekodev to ensure compliance.

Nevertheless, regulatory obligation quickly turned into an opportunity to involve employees and meet their expectations in terms of mobility. Within the framework of 3M’s global approach to sustainable development, the event was organised to launch a mobility plan and was very well received by employees, hence the high response rate to the mobility survey (60%). Thanks to this survey, ekodev helped the site to define a customised action plan to which employees feel committed. Three action priorities were thus identified: carpooling, public transport and walking/cycling.

In addition, 3M’s head office mobility plan is part of a partner approach with local authorities. The action plan defined for 3M’s site responds to needs from other stakeholders in Cergy-Pontoise. The mobility plan became a lever to involve employees within the company and to better integrate the site into its surroundings.

For more than a century, 3M has been designed, discovering, making and selling many solutions to improve daily lives for companies and individuals. Among the most famous brands, 3M has Scotch® and Post-it®, but they also make products in very different fields (pharmaceutical products, cleaning products, optical films, etc.). In France, 3M has more than 3,000 employees and has a turnover of 1.1 billion euros.
